Creating visually appealing graphs, charts, and diagrams can be a daunting task, especially if you’re not well-versed in coding or design…
…But don’t worry, we’ve got your back!
With this easy-to-follow guide, you can leverage the power of ChatGPT to create stunning visualizations for your data.
No coding or design experience required!
Step 1: Setting Up Your ChatGPT with Essential Plugins
To get started, you’ll need to equip your ChatGPT with a couple of handy plugins: ‘Wolfram‘ and ‘Show Me Diagrams‘. Here’s how you do it:
First If you haven’t done it before, go to Settings > Beta Features and activate the Plugins.

Then Start a new chat and select the ‘GPT-4’ option with ‘Plugins’ selected

Now navigate to the ‘Plugin store’.

Look for the Wolfram and Show Me Diagrams plugins and install them.

Step 2: Let ChatGPT Work Its Magic
Now, it’s time to let ChatGPT do what it does best.
In your prompt, instruct ChatGPT to utilize the Wolfram and Show Me Diagrams plugins to craft a graph, diagram, or chart that best represents your data.
Example 1:
I asked ChatGPT to create a couple of pie charts to visualize some sales data. The aim was to understand the contribution of each product and region to the overall revenue.
Prompt:
"Use the 'Show Me Diagrams' plugin to create 2 pie charts. I'd like these charts to depict the proportion of total revenue or units sold that each product and region contributes to. Here's the sales data: [SALES DATA]"

And voila! ChatGPT delivered the results:

Example 2:
"Use the 'Show Me Diagrams' plugin to create 2 Bar charts. I'd like these charts to depict the proportion of total revenue or Classes sold that each Yoga Studio contributes to. Here's the sales data: [SALES DATA]"

And the results:

Remember there are several types of visualizations that could help you understand your data:
- Pie Charts: These could be used to show the proportion of total revenue or classes sold that each class or studio contributes to. For example, you could have one pie chart showing the proportion of total revenue by class, and another showing the proportion by studio.
- Bar Charts: These could be used to compare the total revenue or classes sold for each class or studio. For example, you could have one bar chart showing the total revenue by class, and another showing the total revenue by studio.
- Stacked Bar Charts: These could be used to show the distribution of revenue or classes sold by class within each studio, or vice versa.
- Heat Maps: These could be used to show the revenue or classes sold by class and studio, with color intensity indicating the amount.
- Line Charts: If you have time-series data (e.g., monthly or quarterly sales), these could be used to show trends over time.
The choice of visualization depends on the specific questions you want to answer with the data. For example, if you want to know which class is the most popular overall, a bar chart of classes sold by class could be useful. If you want to know which studio generates the most revenue, a pie chart of total revenue by studio could be useful.
When unsure, just ask ChatGPT, post your data and type: What visualizations will help me understand this data?
